Baby Umbrella Cockatoos?

I had an umbrella cockatoo. You don't want to "allow" them to scream at any time- even if you don't mind it. It's bad behavior. Talking or sqwaking every now and then is fine. Paying attention to them will not necessarily curb the screaming either. As a matter of fact, paying attention to him while he's screaming will reinforce the bad behavior. My advice to you is keep him out of the cage as often as you can, provide a wide variety of fruits and veggies and invest in a large playstand, toys, a large cage, and line up an avian vet. Cockatoos are wonderful and you'll really enjoy having one, especially if you buy a baby from a breeder- and be sure it's hand tame. Prices: A large cage can go from $600-$1000. I spend $100 every two weeks on new toys, nutriberries, and pellets. Fresh fruits and veggies are another $50 every two weeks. Vet bills depend on the visit but my avian vet is $78 for just the exam. A baby is usually around $1000-$1400 but will flex with the breeder and your location. Good luck- oh, and one more piece of advice...purchase "parrots for dummies" (not that you're a dummy- it's a good book).
